Brigid - Limited Edition Print - 25 in the edition (A1 / A3 / A4)

from €75.00

Brigid

First Matron Saint of Ireland. The epitiome of mnáwesome!

This piece is in honour of a woman who represents all women.

No one truly knows what she looked like. This piece is my own artistic interpretation of her:

  • Wild, messy red hair.

  • Compassionate and intelligent eyes.

  • Sensitive and caring whilst brave and bold.

  • She stands confidently.

  • Wearing her magical cloak.

  • Emblazoned with her cross on her sleeve.

  • She’s ordinary.  And extraordinary.

  • She’s a goddess of spring and fertility.

  • Abbess of the abbey she founded.

  • Embodying peace, generosity, healing truth, justice and compassion.

  • Believer in equal rights and religious freedoms.

  • She is the symbol of feminine power and the essence of an Irish woman.

There is a story that says, she gouged out one of her eyes to destroy her beauty. Ironically, it made her more beautiful. I covered one of her eyes with her hair to depict that.

Embedded throughout my signature doodle are elements such as:

  • Triple Moon/Goddess Symbol
is used to represent the Goddess. It shows different portions of the lunar cycle, with the moon in three phases – waxing, full and waning.

  • The Triskele, the Triskelion (Celtic Spiral)
is seen as a symbol of strength and progress. It also represents the will to move forward and overcome adversity. This spiral symbol reflects the Celtic belief that everything important comes in threes.

  • The shamrock
is believed to have been an important Druid symbol. The Druids believed the number three had mystical power. They thought the Shamrock could ward off evil spirits.

  • The yin and yang
in the spiritual realm, serve as a profound metaphor for understanding the complexities of existence. They encourage individuals to seek balance, recognise the interconnectedness of opposites, and embrace the dynamic nature of life

  • The Triquetra or the Trinity Knot
three equal interlaced arcs with a never-ending unbroken line, representing equality, eternity & unity.  The concept of three was the foundation of divine belief, encompassing the maiden, mother and crone, representing the life cycle.

  • Brigid’s Cross
symbolises the beginning of Spring which officially in Ireland is the 1st of February. These crosses are intricately woven from rushes or straw and are traditionally hung by or on doors to ward off fire and evil.

  • B - for Brigid 👊

  • lots of my flowers and leaves representing spring and new beginnings.

Printed on Hahnemuehle Fine Art Paper, which absorbs the ink beautifully and lasts for many lifetimes, this print is in celebration of Brigid and what it means to be an Irish woman! A truly awesome one!
